Summer is my favorite time of the year–the weather is fantastic and everything slows down. Warm days and nights are spent with friends and family outside.

There can be a downside to this, however.  In the summer I find it harder to stay motivated toward my goals.  While I love going to barbecues with friends on the weekend and going out to late-night dinners, these activities also cause me to over-indulge on food and drink, stay up late, and cancel my morning workouts.

This summer I decided to come up with a plan to enjoy the season AND continue to focus on my health and my business.   Here are some tips to help you stay focused over the summer:

Find a buddy

Cancelling workout sessions or long walks is much harder when a friend is waiting for you to join them.

Set up a regular schedule with a friend to meet up for a workout or sign up for group yoga sessions.  Find an accountability partner to meet up for a working lunch session so you can both finish your work projects before you relax for the day.

Tell someone your plans

Meet with your accountability partner weekly and let them know what you will accomplish that week.  Be sure to check in with them at the end of the week to let them know how things went and celebrate your achievements!

Adjust your goals for the summer

Depending on where you live, summer can be a very short season.  Regardless of your goals, be sure to take time to enjoy the time outdoors and with family and friends.  Adjust your goals so that you can enjoy the season, knowing that you can pick up the pace again in the fall.

Change your scenery

The one thing that I really enjoy about this season is being able to take my laptop outside and work on the back patio.  Try changing things up by moving your workstation to a sunny spot, putting fresh flowers on your desk, or playing soft relaxing music when you’re working.

The summer is also a great time to bring your workout outdoors. A long walk at the end of a busy day can be a great way to wind down and relax!
